Paper Snow Flakes, May No Two Be Alike

Ahh, yes it's that time of year again. Let us not stress, let us make paper snowflakes. Simple, easy and cheap. I know that money is one big factor this time of year. Now that I can breath a little easier since my family is giving instead of spending. For the first time in a long time I am truly enjoying the holiday.

So. What better way to be festive than having beautiful snowflakes hanging from the ceiling. String them up with fishing line and you won't even notice the line. I think most of us have at one point in our life made these decorations, but if it has been so long that you are not sure of how to fold it up you can look it up here as well as some patterns to cut out certain designs and folds to make six, five, or eight sided snowflakes.

There are some really intricate and beautiful patterns that can be created with snowflakes. There is a website, Dave's Snowflake Page that has some of the best I've ever seen. Truly amazing. There are even downloads were you can make you own digital snowflakes. If you don't feel like cutting out your own there are printable snowflakes, it could be a fun idea for the kids to color and even cut out to decorate with.

I plan on trying to create some to look like real snowflakes. The NOAA has some photographs of real snowflakes up close. But nothing compares to the photo gallery at SnowCrystals.com, they have some really amazing pictures. There is lots of cool info on this site as well. As I was checking out the website I came across instruction on how to preserve snowflakes so that you can view them under a microscope! Now how cool is that, I am going to have to try it out. If you want to see more real snowflake pictures you can find them at the Wilson Bentley website, Mark Cassino has lots of photos of real snowflakes, and at webshots outdoors.

Well, have fun and let's all get festive!

This is great! Been thinking of what to do to the kids room to make them feel like they still have snow! These links were really helpful!
